A new writing retreat has just opened in the northwest of Ireland and I would like to make sure information is easily accessible to your members. Below is a short description of Donegal, described as the Forgotten Land, steeped in ancient history and rich in wild landscape.
More information about the retreat and the writing program can be found here: http://irelandwritingretreat.com/

‘Tucked away among the mountains and the sea, Donegal is a remote region cut off from the rest of the country by narrow ribbons of roads zigzagging across soggy marshes and lake-lined bogs. A place not easy to get to. Or to leave. Forgotten by the rest of Ireland. It’s another world where you leave behind traffic lights and traffic jams, gas stations and fast-food outlets, multi-storey apartments and office blocks, doorbells and elevators.
To a great extent, you leave behind people. It’s bloody wonderful. And it's easy to tell when the real world ends and the surreal begins. As houses, children, grandmothers, barking dogs and postmen disappear, so does the road. Into a layer of mist, thicker than an Irish stew.
Instead of everyday noise, there's an eerie silence. And a long, twisty, empty, bumpy, pebble-filled excuse of a road ahead beckons you to continue forward into the unknown. Before you, a landscape stretches to the far horizon that resembles nothing less than the face of Mars, or Mars as you might imagine it. Stunted clumps of purple and yellow heather flourish everywhere, the only vegetation capable of withstanding this alien climate and the majestic silver slopes of Errigal Mountain beckoning nearby.
Twisting marshy brown reeds bending backwards over huge, splintered granite rocks, millions of years old, dumped here since the dawn of time. That’s the beauty of the place. It’s ancient in every way. A gorgeous landscape that almost sings with the music of nature. Vibrant with deer, badger, thrush and lark, a refreshing waterfall that plummets down sheer cliffs and a romantic 19th century castle at the head of a lough bathed in colorful flower gardens."

I would be very happy to answer any questions you might have and I wish you and your members a most contented 2014.

Thank you so much for furnishing us with such a lovely dream! Speaking for myself, I would give anything to be your guest! My family have deep roots in Donegal as one branch on the family tree spent many generations at Redcastle. We will surely make sure that all of us at writingnorthidaho are informed of this kind invitation.
